A succeeder for its sheer beauty , this monumental , flavorful tomato is one I wo n’t garden without . The multi-colored skin has chromaticity of pink , greenish and yellow-bellied , while the flesh at heart is green with pink streaking . Every yield my plants produce is at least 1 pound ; many are close to 2 . This is my favorite tomato for BLTs .

2. Old German Tomato

Another large - fruited tomato variety , Old German is a gorgeous mysterious orange tree . The skin is mottle with red . With very few seeds , this variety is so meaty and juicy — a perfect slicer . Fruits librate between 1 and 2 pounds each . Although it takes a long time to ripen ( 85 Clarence Day ) , it ’s well worth the wait . This old - fashioned heirloom tastes best with a touch modality of salt and a mizzle of olive oil .

3. San Marzano Gigante Tomato

Of all the spread Lycopersicon esculentum I ’ve grown , this one is my favorite . Substantially large than regular San Marzano paste love apple , this heirloom motley produces 6- to 8 - in long , elongated fruits that are bright red with green streak on the shoulders . They thicken sauce like nobody ’s business ! The plants are very richly - concession , and the fruit have diminished come pockets .

4. White Beauty Tomato

This creamy ashen tomato packs a flavorful punch . I love the complex relish that has touches of smoking and citrus . The cutis is thin , and the flesh is juicy . Although sometimes the blossom ends become cat - faced ( slightly deformed ) , do n’t let that stop you from growing this delightful tomato . I apply mine to make livid tomato soup , and we love them slit in salad and on sandwich .

5. Koralik Tomato

This sweet small cherry red tomato grow tons of fruits just 60 days after planting . The plants are definitive , so this is an excellent pick for growing in patio containers . I ’ve raise this variety in fabric grow bags on my patio with outstanding success . The yield of Koralik grows in long corbel , and all the fruits on a single corbel ripen at the same time . Mine create scores of Lycopersicon esculentum for month , and I see the flavor to have a courteous sweet bite .
