At this weekend show at Tower Hill Botanic Garden there were a few hundred blossoms on presentation . I think that guests never realized that there were only about six exhibitioner , which gives you an approximation of how endangered the New England camellia collections are . I was expect to be a judge again ( I adjudicate two years ago ) and my good booster Glen Lord was also asked – we are both camelia growers , but not very serious collector , at least yet . Camellia enthusiast are a rare breed in the North today .
Most of my plant came from Nuccio ’s Nursery in California . When I go to LA on business , I always adjudicate to make a side trip to this landmark Pasadena baby’s room . I have them pack plant up in crates which I fetch back on the plane . I prefer to blame out the form I require ( usually in early February ) when they have them displayed on wooden table . Camellia shows display blossom in small dish or in bowls , in much the same room we home raiser expose camelia in our menage – in photographic plate , or float in a sports stadium . I ’ve come to appreciate a February holiday such as St Valentines Day or chair day as represented by a bowl of camellia . sure , any 19th century individual would find such a video display a very proper result , and an appropriate one for an parlor or dining table in the era .
