This was the view of my back garden , where some late shrub- and tree - buying was really pay off , belittled space be damned .
My one perennial that still look skilful is Amsonia hubrichtii , in the foreground . Behind it is an Oakleaf Hydrangea . Further right and rising above the screen are the orange - tipped yellow leave of Redbud ‘ Rising Sun . ’ Gorgeous .
On the pavement side of the CRT screen you see the Redbud on the left field , along with the ruby-red leaves of ‘ Mt. Airy ’ genus Fothergilla and majestic parting of a Purple Smokebush . Below them is a variegated evergreen plant Acuba ‘ Picturata . ’

Above is the scene from my living room with three Japanese maples doing their fall thing . The new maples are ‘ Osakazuki ’ and ‘ Orido Nishiki . ’
On the terrace you see the three mountain that used to hold annuals , which were right away decimated by deer . I replaced them with ‘ Standing Ovation ’ Little Bluestem grasses , as I reported inthis post .

For wintertime I added a few artificial pieces for a bit of color to the pots . That ’s it for “ vacation ” ribbon in my back yard .
This photo was frivol away looking up from one of the Adirondack chairs on the patio . On the left is the only plant leave that precede my incite here eight years ago , so I do n’t know which Nipponese maple it is . The ‘ Osakazuki ’ maple on the right is a recent improver .
eventually , here ’s a material do - er in any garden , including this bit of city property I ’ve adopted , not far from my theatre . It ’s an ‘ Ogon ’ Spirea , which I ca n’t seem to get enough of , since I ’ve plant them in all the garden I incline . It ’s the first to riffle out in spring and the last to recede farewell in the fall . Eye - catching in three season .

It ’s only with the first appearance of more shrubs and small trees , specially the ones that have keen fall coloring , that my newish ( 8 - year - old ) garden has finally won me over .
So I ’m well-chosen gardener again , after leave the view above in Takoma Park , MD . My retentive back garden sloped down into a orotund wooded valley with a creek at the bottom . On moving day one of the crew stood on the deck , look at this view and said , “ How could you leave this ? ” And that was in December .

But I ’m over it . Really !
