Heal Your Hands With Herbal Balms

To a diehard nurseryman , rough , beaten men are a badge of honor . But by the time fall rove around , enough is enough . The garden is put to bed , and your consistence is commonplace . It ’s time to rejuvenate , and what good mode to soothe your beaten-up pelt and chap sassing than with a homemade herbal balm scented with herbs from your garden ?

The ingredients are relatively inexpensive , so you could afford to experiment with different combination of herbs and essential oils . It ’s all natural , too , with bare ingredients that you may enounce and that you may find in your local health - food store . Making an herbal unguent is a great wintertime task and a fantastic way to enjoy the bounty of your garden .

What you need

Yields enough to replete four 4 - oz. jelly jars

Directions

1.Gently heat the olive oil and herbsin the top of a dual kettle over simmer water for about 15 minutes . For this batch , we ’re using dried lavender and chamomile .

2.Strain the oilinto a little bowling ball , and discard the herbs . Return the oil to the double steam boiler .

3.Add the essential oil . Lavender oil will give this portmanteau a mordacious rush . The oil you choose , however , does n’t have to mate your herb .

4.Melt the beeswaxin the oil mixture until it disappear completely . Gratingthe beeswax first makes this step lightning tight .

5.Test the consistencyby dipping a spoonful into the mixture and letting it place away from the heat for a few minutes . If it ’s too diffuse , bestow more beeswax ; if it ’s too hard , add more Olea europaea oil .

6.Pour the warm balminto fair jolt , and let it temper . Cap the jars after the balm has cooled . Enjoy !
