In a Vase on Monday. Green Wicky.
It ’s quite a while since I posted as I have had eye surgical process . I have look at some of the photos on your web log but I could n’t see to translate or write . It is far too late to say Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year as the year is not so new any more and Christmas is long proceed and all compact away . Nevertheless , I do wish all my blogging friends the very best for 2025 and a wonderful , joyful twelvemonth in the garden .
January is mostly the gloomiest month and this yr has been gloomier than most . as I was banish from gardening for 4 week . I know it has n’t exactly been garden conditions but still I do n’t like being differentiate that I ca n’t . But now , my wintertime garden is wake up with winter aconite , snowdrops , hellebores and beautifulDaphne bholua‘Jacqueline Postill ’ and I have some exciting bloom buds in the conservatory . So instead of sitting in the gloom eat louse , ( metaphorically ) I can begin to bask my winter treats unfolding . I ca n’t spare any of these precious gem for a vase so I searched for something else . I love light-green flowers and I was delighted to line up that the severe freeze we have had this calendar month left theseDianthus barbatus‘Green Wicky ’ dead unscathed and a fabulous addition to a wintertime vase . I ca n’t take any mention for these as my daughter grew them and be given them all summertime long and I think it is a surprise to both of us that they should look so upright in winter when fresh flowers are at a agio . From now on these will always find a place in my winter garden . Lovely fresh green is just what we need just now . My girl bought these plants as plugs last spring but I am hoping to be capable to get enough cuttings plump for both of us .
I picked leafage from myPittosporum tenufolium‘Victoria ’ and it is growing fast so I have mass to give up . I also used a few branchlet from the wintertime jasmine , Jasminum nudifoliumwhich is only a year old , but next winter vases should have stack of this once it gets going . Catkins are always a lovely accession to wintertime vases and I have plentifulness in the hedgerow so these boast too .

For fragrance I have used a few sprig ofSarcococca confusa.and some wintertime anthesis honeysuckleLonicera x purpusii‘Winter Beauty ’ . My female parent was a cracking flower arranger and I have used one of her favourite vases .
So there we have a very quick vase today to reconnect with Cathyat Rambling in the Gardenand all her followers who pull off to recover something for a vase every Monday even in the depths of wintertime .
