It was a year ago today that we begin up the Garden Photo of the Day blog . Since then we ’ve posted over 450 inspiring garden photos , many of which come from you , our GPOD readers ! I took a few minutes yesterday to read through the entire year of photo , and it was lots of fun – I extremely recommend it . Keep those smashing photos coming . I ’d like to specially thank Ruth Dobsevage , FG ’s World Wide Web producer , who steps in to save the day whenever I ’m too overwhelmed working on the actual paper magazine to post for a few twenty-four hours – thanks , Ruth , you ’re the BEST !
Today we ’re kick off the second year of the GPOD with a flora compounding at one of my favorite gardens , theCentral Park Conservatory Gardenin New York City . If you ’ve never been , you should . The gardeners there are master at combining plants , and they use some somewhat amazing plants . This jazz band includes honey bush ( Melianthus major , USDA Hardiness Zones 8 - 11 ) , ‘ Magilla ’ genus Perilla ( Perilla‘Magilla ’ , one-year ) , and a gloomy elephant ear ( Colocasia esculentacv . , Zones 8 - 11 ) . Dreamy !
Welcome to theFine GardeningGARDEN photograph OF THE DAY blog ! Every weekday we place a new photo of a great garden , a spectacular plant , a stunning plant life combination , or any number of other subjects . Think of it as your morning jolt of green .

READER PHOTOS : We love feature your photos , too . If you remember you have a pic that we should portion out on the Garden Photo of the day , email us . Send hi - res range if possible . We ’ll only respond if we be after to habituate your photo .
