A gardener gets a bird’s-eye view of her garden and the sunny San Diego area in spring
Hi GPODers !
A few workweek ago we got a kick - off to spring from Daniel Rivera when he sent in a video of his garden in California ’s Bay Area filling with the earliest spring blooms and new growing ( if you missed that video recording , tally it out here : Spring Has Sprung in Daniel ’s California Garden ) . I think Californians have heard my calls for spring garden because today we ’re point down to SoCal to see the vibrant give blooms Lori Kilmer trance on her newfangled camera drone .
My name is Lori Kilmer , and I live in the San Diego area . I have been gardening for about 40 years , and grow a variety of things like , plumerias , rose wine , avocados , Harlan F. Stone yield , citrus tree , vegetables and a variety of other flowers . I am a member of 5 garden clubs , because you may never take too much about flora . The bonus of being in all the clubs are the wonderful friends I have made over the years . of late , I have been learning to fly my drone I got for Christmas . Here is a video I made of my papilio amaryllis(Hippeastrum papilio , Zone 8–10)and tabebuia tree(Tabebuiasp . , Zone 9–11)that is in blossom . Enjoy .

Often considered an surface area with some of the best weather in the country , residents in the San Diego area are no stranger to sunny days and mild temperatures during the winter months . While gardeners in colder mood might think it ’s soft to get wear down by year - round gardening , no amount of good atmospheric condition takes away the excitement of seeing sealed flowers reappear .
While I could n’t capture eminent - quality screenshots , I still wanted to pull some images to point out the plants Lori mentioned in her description . Above are the sheer blooms of papilio amaryllis A.K.A. the butterfly amaryllis . Most of us likely associate amaryllis with the holidays and the mount - covered bulbs so often given as giving . In sunny San Diego , Lori is able to plant these beautiful bulbs in - ground and bask the Brobdingnagian blooms in her yard every twelvemonth .
You in all likelihood guess which plant was the tabebuia tree in full blush , it was pretty hard to miss ! Also called a ‘ trumpet tree diagram ’ , these Sir Herbert Beerbohm Tree absolutely cover themselves in trump - mold blooms before foliage emerges in spring ( much like magnolia , cherry red blossoms , and other leap - flowering woodies ) . Various species produce bloom in unlike shades of pinko , like Lori ’s stunning specimen , but others make fortunate jaundiced flowers .

Lastly , Lori treated us to this beautiful purview of her neighborhood and the plenty in the distance with some thenar tree dot the skyline . April showers have arrived with force here in Connecticut , so this sampling of sunniness could not have been more timely for me !
Thank you so much for sharing a taste of your bound garden with us , Lori ! I desire we continue to see more from your garden as you continue to try out with your new drone , we do n’t get these bird’s - eye views of gardens very often !
