My Top Ten Michaelmas Daisies, (or if you insist Symphiotrichum).

We are having such splendid September weather that it is a pleasure to be alfresco and the flowers just keep on coming . This is the month that Michaelmas daisy , sorrySymphyiotrichumreally get going , and they are going to brighten up our garden   decently through October . I would like to bring in   my top ten Asters . I roll in the hay little blossom I and my favourite is ‘ Little Carlow ’ . It is a intercrossed withnova - belgiiandcordifoliusparents . It   has masses of petty lilac blue flowers with a   lovely dark centre . I grow it withPersicaria amplexicaulis‘Blackfield ’ .

A snug 2nd isAster cordifolius‘Ideal ’ ,   this has a richness of even smaller lavender flowers . It is very similar toAster‘Photograph ’ which I register you in a recent military post . Aster laterifolius horizontalis‘Lady in Black ’ has even small-scale flower . It is very exchangeable to ‘ Prince ’ . It has lovely non-white foliage and little white-hot bloom with pinkish center . I have recently bought another   Aster   with really dark foliage called    ‘ Glow in the dark ’ ,   but I wo n’t let in it in my top ten   because it is not in peak yet . ObviouslyAster frikartii‘Monch ’ has to come in the top ten because its lovely , large bloom with yellow centres flower for so long . They lead off in July and are still look good now . Behind the one in my picture isAster pilosusvar.pringlei‘Monte Cassino ’ . This   has feathery foliage and white flowers with yellow centre which are not out yet but they wo n’t be long now . They last for ages . At numeral six , although I bang it so much , it should be at routine one ,   along with ‘ Little Harlow ’ we have ‘ Le Vasterival ’ . It is a very elegant , tall growingAsterwith drab , plummy colored stems . The flowers are delicate spook of not - quite- pinkish , difficult to describe but very reasonably . I do n’t grow anyAster novi- belgiibecause they tend to hurt from mildew . Aster novae - angliaeare much salubrious . I have a go at it the cryptical , rich colour of the stem and prime of ‘ Rougham Purple ’ which was bred in Suffolk . Asters in sorry rich tad are so beautiful and I have Aster novae - angliae ‘ Marina Wolkonsky ’ in deep violet . I showed you ‘ Harrington ’s Pink ’ recently but this does not number in my top ten because the colour is a bit wishy - faded . I much prefer the deep rose - pink of ‘ Andenken an Alma Potschke’ . Another lovely , rich colour is ‘ Septemberrubin ’ . Again I do n’t know what you would call it , purple -red perhaps or even magenta . That seems to be ten but I have a couple more I just have to remark . I did n’t agnise how many aster I had until I commence this post .   I ca n’t leave out out beautifulAster amellus‘King George ’ . I believe it is quite an sometime one but it is so dependable and always full of bee . I’ll complete with a lovely one   with beautiful , red- slanted leaves in Autumn . It isAster‘Primrose Path’ .. I should perhaps have bring up ‘ Purple Dome ’ because it is a endearing colour and such a slap-up form for the front of the border . I wrote about it on in   former place though .

So that is my pick of Asters . I was move to join in withThePatientgardener’sEnd of the Month View meme this calendar month but I bewilder side -tracked by my asters .   Incidentally , all of these asters are very healthy with no tracing of mould .

I would lie with it if you would tell me which asters you are enjoying at the moment . I should n’t really add to my collection but if you have a really gorgeous one please tell us about it . Maybe I have room for just one more .

Goodness , they ’re all so beautiful . That Marina Wolkonsky - wow ! That ’s a real knockout . My slight native Texas asters ( Symphyotrichum oblongiolium ) have n’t yet set forth flower – though it should happen soon .

So , so beautiful , Chloris . My favorite capitulation bloom , which alas i can not mature . Not enough cold or not enough wet . I do n’t know which . But wait ! Is that a guara I see in the scope ? I can grow the pick ‘ Siskiyou Pink ’ , It ’s monstrous ; but not the white . I question now if I planted the aster with the guara they would take the hint and grow ? My front-runner is ‘ Lady in Black ’ which i had one year , local name was “ September Mary Jane ” . Perfect . Thanks a bunch for showing us your favorites .

Wow , you have quite a collection of Asters . I do n’t have many – I added ‘ Vibrant Dome ’ last evenfall , and it ’s flourish so it must wish its spot . It ’s taking a prospicient time to fully bloom , though . Maybe when it gets more sunshine as the parting send packing overhead . I also have a department of the “ False Asters”–Boltonia Asteroides . I added them in early summertime , though , so they ’re still getting their leg . Nice post !

That is quite a lot of Asters . I have two midget - flowered ones that I am actually croak to try passing on top a acquaintance . I ’ve realized recently that I choose the bigger flowers . I have one that I got from a friend , that I think is Aster x frikartii ‘ Monch . ’ I love that one .

An excellent post Chloris celebrate asters . Oh you have my favourite ‘ Little Carlow ’ and I ’ve just added a couple more to my wish leaning after reading this post . I come home with ‘ King George ’ recently after a trip to a nursery in Cumbria where the owner had a vase of these in efflorescence on the sales counter . I directly send himself to find the plant . I ’m also very fond of aster divaricatus even though it ’s rather floppy .

I also adore asters especially now … I have many of the same unity and ca n’t believe of a favorite as I love them all .
