Today ’s photos are from Leslie Roseman in Gainesville , Florida ( USDA Hardiness Zone 8b ) . Leslie says,“Our home is twenty long time sure-enough , and we last on a one Accho sight . We built the plate with typical north florida suburban plants ( azalea , wax myrtle , Genista raetam and lots of eatage ) . We used a local landscape architect who used lots of L ’s -liriope , lawn , etc . But then we evolve and in the last ten year have become much more serious .
“ We like a wide variety of works and travel to all dissimilar glasshouse in the southeast to collect them . We have a bad case of “ Zone Envy ” , so we often endeavor to push the envelope and see if we can give a plant that might not normally do well in our zone . Most of our plant life are perennial , palms , and tropicals . I use annuals as fillers for contrast and color . More than flowering plants , I really savor desegregate different leaf texture as the contrasting textures make the unlike plants down .
“ We have put in some hardscape . There are three unlike path in the garden , and some are a bit more hard to voyage than others . This was done intentionally to slow the visitant and do them to take note of the works . Besides the paths , my favorite matter in the garden are the succulents , hydrangeas , Nipponese maples , and tricolor stromanthe . My married man eff theGloriosa rothschildianaandMangave‘Macho Mocha ’ plants .

“ Our big challenges are the frigid spells . We are always running outdoors covering all the plant so they will hopefully survive . Our zona can occasionally get freezing snap , so it can be a literal challenge to keep our babies warm . Our theatre and garage often become a refuge for insensate sensitive plants during these times .
We are very lucky . My husband and I are a right match . He likes to trim , I like to weed , and we ordinarily do the planting together . I am a Master Gardener and my husband is a Master Gardener ’s assistant .
It is interesting that our two daughters grew up here in this household with a great garden , and where do they survive ? They hold out together in an apartment in New York City . ”I have a tone they will rediscover the joys of gardening as they get former , Leslie . One day … .
