garden
August already ! Wow , metre for another Six thing , in the garden , on a Saturday . Could be anything , a ripe plant , a pesterer , a predator , an interesting blossom , a good harvesting , anything at all . Go on , link in ! Here are my Six for this calendar week .
1 – Bramley apple . This mature tree is n’t in reality in my garden , it ’s in next doors . About 40 % of the tree overhangs my veg plot so we commonly get a decent crop . Last year I induct in a longsighted - rod fruit chooser , albeit a little recently to benefit fully from its reach . This year I ’m expecting a bumper harvest , especially as the retentive pole set aside me to reach over the fence and scrump a few of his apple ! Before you get all shock , he is not interested in the fruit but is interested in the spiced apple chutney we make , a few jar of which find their way to him .

2 – Dianthus ‘ brilliancy ’ . I grew these from source , a packet foot up for pence in an end of season cut-rate sale . I sowed them last summertime and they winter in trays in the greenhouse . I twinge off the top of these plant two or three time as they were growing on which has encourage them to be moderately bushy flora . I had 80 of these , almost all of which are now planted out . It is just start up to flower in phone number and will give expert front - row help around the garden and in containers .
3 – Astilbe , var unk . Weirdly , all my astilbe are going crinkly brown around the boundary of the leaves , and the flowers have been less good this year . Perhaps they are just past it , I ’ve had them for a number of yr . More likely they have n’t enjoy the dryish weather this class .
4 – Lobelia speciosa ‘ fan burgundy ’ – I bought three of these , amongst others , off the pity bench in my local garden centre a couple of weeks ago . They were greatly reduced , for no obvious reason . I ’ve make some cuttings ( more industrial plant ! ) just in case . My biggest problem is finding somewhere to put them . I may exit them in pots till next spring , perhaps moving them up to a larger size of it along the way .

5 – Rudbeckia . These were grow from pack of mixed semen last year . When they were quick to plant out I did n’t immediately have anywhere to put them so I popped them in a large raft on the patio . They did n’t on the button boom in there , but they did ok . This yr , I have a mass of flowers , unlike shapes , colours and sizes and it bet quite passably , more by luck than mind . I do n’t think the pot is decent adjustment for them so I ’ll be looking for a blot in the borders later in the yr . I ’ll be pick up some seed from the practiced flower – I peculiarly like the red ones and the striking yellow and black patterned ones . Who get laid what I ’ll get when those seeds pullulate , but that ’s a part of the fun .
6 – Anemanthele lessonia , or pheasant ’s hindquarters Gunter Grass . I have several clump of this constellate around the garden , both front and back . I originally had one industrial plant which has self - seed munificently . This might be a problem , but the seedlings are quite distinctive – I just pull them up and stick them in a pot to make the next clump . For grounds that are not wholly clear to me , I also grew some more from a bought packet of seed , compounding the self - seeding trouble . It ’s an evergreen sess , and has glowering dark-green , brown , imperial and brown tinges to the folio which make quite a striking effect , I think . The swelled one is a bit sprawly now , and I think has lost the best of it ’s color . I believe I ’ll jab it up at the end of this season .
That ’s my Six , what are yours ? Please , fall in in , more the jocund . If you do , please just sum up a gossip below with a data link to your spot , and mayhap add a connectedness back to this blog from your post .
