Tomato Cutting Continues to Grow

At the end of last year’s gardening season, I snipped the terminal shoot from a tomato plant, plunked it in a jar of water and kept it over the winter.

Last October , in a unhinged charge to pick the remaining tomatoes before bad weather condition settled in , I clip the uppermost growing tip ( terminal shoot ) from one of my heirloom Black Krim plants . The plant was still beautiful and I could n’t suffer the opinion of what the approaching blizzard would do to it .

I plunked the shoot in a jolt of water and placed it by the kitchen swallow hole , just so I could enjoy one final end of summertime . That little flake of summer lasted through fall , winter and into spring . Now the plant is getting ready to acquire fruit once again .

The cutting rooted in the jar of weewee and last month I imbed it in the veg garden . Now the plant is over 3 feet magniloquent and is adulterate with little yellow prime that stand for tomatoes will soon be on their way .

I’vesaved heirloom tomato seedsfrom one time of year to establish the next , but this was the first clock time I ’ve saved a part of the real plant .

I kept the jar filled with light weewee and every once in a while I ’d feed it with some smooth fertilizer . The roots continued to develop and the plant stay on green from calendar month to month .

In early spring I carefully transplanted the cutting into a tall container occupy with moist pot soil to alllow the roots elbow room to grow . The works was harden off with the other tomato plants I had start out from seed and then transplanted into the garden .

Even though it ’s a bit myopic than the Black Krim I started from seed , it ’s blooming right on schedule . I ’ll keep my digit track this tomato plant plant , from last year ’s garden , will set fruit to enjoy this class .

I ’ll also test to take another cutting to see if I can keep that works grow for another gardening season .
