My kin has made this Waldorf salad recipe for as long as I can remember .
It is a family tradition , that still put up today , that we would prepare this recipe as part of our Thanksgiving menu . And I can remember making this at least once during the summertime months as our donation for group field day .

raise up I would always help my female parent in the kitchen . I was the sea captain at peeling potato . But when it came to Waldorf salad it was my job to cut each grape in half lengthwise and remove the seeds .
Yes , the grapeshot back then all had seeds . And look back , my job would have been a band good if seedless grape were available .
I used asmall starter spoonto scoop the seed out of each and every grapevine . I was very measured , inspecting every grape half to be sure that I did n’t overlook any .

Before seedless grapes were readily available it was my job to remove the seeds.
My biggest fear was that someone would prick into a seed and/or finish up strangle on one and it be my fault .

But to be honest , by the closing of the job , I was a little less careful about withdraw every picayune seed . This was a very tedious task and as a young girl the fallal of helping in the kitchen quickly wore off .

The History of Waldorf Salad Recipe
When I scram older and began making my own Waldorf Salad recipe , I begin to question the name of this pop dish .
I make love that we typically used apples , cultivated celery , grapes , raisin and walnuts to make up the salad and then tossed it in a level of mayo .
However , I could n’t enter out where the name Waldorf came from .

So I did a little investigating and find out that this recipe arise in the famous Waldorf - Astoria hotel in New York . This recipe date back to the 1890 ’s and originally consisted of only apples , celery and mayonnaise .

Since then , there have been several variation , but each one is still considered a Waldorf salad formula .

The formula posted below include the ingredients that we use in our salad . But others have substituted grapefruit , Pyrus communis , pine nuts , dates , dried cherries , dried cranberry and more to make it the manner their family would like it .
To make things a little healthy , I now substitute the mayonnaise with Greek yogurt , or at least a portion of it . And if I am find very adventuresome I will summate in a footling Cajun seasoning .
Typically , Waldorf salad would be served on a layer of lettuce . However , we have always served it as more of a side mantrap .

The dressing is made of mayonnaise and/or Greek Yogurt.
The fertilization is made of mayo and/or Greek Yogurt .
Whatever you opt to tot to your Waldorf salad recipe and whether you run through it as a salad or side dish , I am sure that you and your kinsperson will relish it just as much as we do .

Waldorf Salad Recipe
Crispy apples , crunchy celery and walnuts and grapes tossed in a creamy dressing that make for the double-dyed salad or side dish for any occasion .
2 metier Red Delicious apples , chop
2 mass medium Golden Delicious apple , chopped

I prefer to eat this Waldorf Salad recipe as a side dish.
2 tablespoonful lemon juice
2 Apium graveolens dulce ribs , chop
1 cup red grapes , cut in half lengthwise

3/4 cup chopped walnuts
1/2 cup raisin
1 cup mayo or Grecian yoghurt

1/4 teaspoon ground cinnamon .
I opt to eat this Waldorf Salad formula as a side dish .
1 . In a large bowl , cast aside apples with lemon succus .

2 . In a small bowl commixture together the mayonnaise / Greek yogurt and cinnamon .
3 . Add the celery , walnuts , raisins with the apple and lightly stir in mayonnaise / Greek yogurt and cinnamon dressing .
Refrigerate until function .
