So , how do you get eggs when you do n’t have a rooster ? Seems like a dumb question now , but a sincere question I had a few years back . Chickens were a subject that I bed very little about .

The only affair I recognise was that when I was growing up , a girl down the street had chicken and when we entered the cage we had to avoid the rooster , or we would come out with very sore ( and sometimes bloody ) ankle .

Jim and I both require to have our own chickens….not only for the novelty of being capable to have farm fresh brown egg , but also as somewhat of a financial incentive with 4 teenage children that like to feed breakfast .   So after weeks of net and local research , we decided that we were ready to undertake the challenge of lift our own doll .

We quickly pick out 10 dame in a composition board container and headed home .   After sustain them settled in their raw home , we sat for hours watch them under their warming lamp .   We had to introduced our Black Lab ‘ Jazzy ’ to the newest members of the family….interesting to say the least .   ( we had to assure her that the chirping noise was n’t the same noise she found in the squeaker of her toys ) . And then – after all of the fervour died down … we realise we needed to construct their permanent home .   And building then get down on ‘ The Coop ’ .

Now remember , we do n’t survive on ‘ The Farm ’ .   We last in a pretty typical suburban neighborhood with neighbour within throw distance from us . We also have frequent walkers that happen by the house and always give a friendly undulation hello .

So when we decide to build up what we now call “ The Coop ” , we had to do so in our driveway where we had the advanced gadget of electricity . Using reclaimed shipping crate and pallet wood , we built the chicken coop principally out of reprocess material .   After week one , we not only had a figure to our social organization , but a pretty significant commencement to the future home of the chickens .
